The Centre for Information Policy Leadership develops initiatives that encourage responsible information governance in today's digital society. The Centre is a member-driven organization that operates within the Privacy and Information Management practice at Hunton & Williams LLP. Through collaboration with industry leaders, consumer organizations and government representatives, the Centre provides leadership in developing policy to help ensure privacy and information security while balancing economic and societal needs and interests in today’s global information age.
The Centre for Information Policy leadership was founded in 2001 by leading companies and Hunton & Williams LLP to develop innovative, pragmatic approaches to privacy and information security issues from a business-process perspective while respecting the privacy interests of individuals. Since its establishment, the Centre has addressed such issues as transparency, conflicting national legal requirements, cross border data transfers, and government uses of private sector data.
Content developed in Centre projects is available to the public, and used to educate policymakers in the U.S. and abroad. Privacy professionals at member companies use the Centre's content and processes to resolve issues facing their organizations. The Centre is member driven and member supported, and frequently engages data protection authorities and consumer privacy organizations in its work to foster thoughtful, balanced solutions.
